The first release candidate (RC1) for WordPress 6.6 has been released for download and testing. Do not use this version on production or mission-critical websites; it should be evaluated on a test server or local environment.
How to Test
- Plugin: Install and activate the WordPress Beta Tester plugin.
- Direct download: Download and install the RC1 release (zip).
- Command line: Use the WP-CLI command
wp core update --version=6.6-RC1. - WordPress Playground: Test directly in your browser via the 6.6 RC1 WordPress Playground instance.
Release Schedule
- Target release date: July 16, 2024.
- A string freeze is currently in effect until July 16, and no strings may be changed.
- All merges during the RC period require sign-off from two core committers.
