As an important approach to promoting technological innovation and talent cultivation, open source education is receiving increasing attention. This three-day conference aims to deepen understanding of open source education, promote its development, and plan specific action plans. The conference covered multiple topics including open source education from an industrial perspective, computer talent training programs, open source general education and popularization, and open source courses and resource construction. The conference invited important guests including Professor Wang Huaimin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Hu Shimin, Vice Chairman of CCF, and Wang Yunhui, Deputy Director of the Fifth Electronic Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
In the special session "Open Source Education from the Perspective of Computer Training Programs", Huang Dongxu of PingCAP delivered a keynote speech. As a core member of the open source database TiDB and a representative from the industry, he shared the important value of the TiDB open source community in the linkage between industry and education. PingCAP is actively engaged in open source, empowers academia, and attaches great importance to talent cultivation. PingCAP not only maintains close cooperation with major universities at home and abroad for joint project-based talent cultivation, but also launched the open source database development course Talent Plan, which aims to solve the problem of R&D talent shortage in China's database field. Through the Talent Plan project, PingCAP leverages the power of the open source community to provide learning and growth opportunities for students and professionals interested in database technology. To date, the project has successfully attracted a group of promising young developers. In addition, over the past three sessions of the China Database Summer School, PingCAP has brought open source courses to campuses, and donated all engineering practice experiments for the 2021-2023 cooperative summer school to the Database Professional Committee of China Computer Federation (CCF), growing together with China's database industry. PingCAP believes that through continuous efforts and cooperation, open source education will provide a broader platform for technological innovation and talent cultivation, and promote the development of the entire industry.
After three days of discussion, the guests reached a preliminary consensus on a range of topics including the core connotation of open source education, the needs and difficulties of open source education, the construction of open source course resources, the optimization of talent training models in universities and other scientific research institutions, and the development of open source general education and popularization. Participating experts unanimously agreed that under the current background, developing open source education and cultivating open source talents is an urgent task. In the future, PingCAP will continue to contribute to the promotion and implementation of open source education. Through projects such as Talent Plan, it will further deepen cooperation with academia, expand the influence of the open source community, and cultivate more database technical talents.
About the Xiuhu Conference
The Xiuhu Conference is a new high-quality small-scale international academic discussion brand created by CCF. Drawing on the model of Germany's Dagstuhl Seminars and Japan's Shonan Meeting, it aims to conduct in-depth discussions on scientific, technological, application, educational and industrial issues in computer-related fields, and provide new ideas and suggestions for the future development and application of computing technology. Each seminar focuses on discussion and exchange around a specific cutting-edge issue, and is only open to front-line experts invited by the initiator, and is not open to the public. The conference lasts 3 days, requires participants to attend the entire event and cannot leave midway, and guides scientists, corporate technical experts and education experts to settle down and devote themselves to academic research in today's impetuous society.
